French Antique Braquenie Curtain
Gorgeous 19th c Braquenie curtain; cotton with a vanilla background and "blanket" lined. It has a lovely 5 inch deep ruffle along one side and the bottom edge. It is just over 10 feet long and 3.6 feet wide NOT including the ruffle.
Braquenie are a prestigious French textile house which began in 1824. The name is synonymous with French Classicism and quality. Their fabrics can be found in the Louvre and the old courts of Europe.
Due to it's age it is not without issue. It has random mildew stains, mostly around the bottom. There are 2 small very well sewn patches and tears on the bottom ruffle in one area. The lining has some staining & 2 holes. Despite this It is still so attractive, having the distinct air of faded grandeur. The faults are not that easy to find in the design & large size.
It could be used not only as a curtain but also a door curtain, pelmet or it could be laid over the back of a sofa as a cover - so many possibilities for such a grand textile!
