Victorian Roses Needlepoint Chair
Beautiful Mid Victorian "parlour" chair with intricately carved back rest and very decoraive needlepoint seat.
The back rest has a striking sheild design with a standard plant and flower in the center and another flower shape above. Perhaps it is a rose, which would coordinate perfectly with the seat. The hand stitched needlepoint seat includes sumptuous palest pink roses, fresh green foliage and flourishes in sofest beige and pale pink on a burgundy background. The seat is trimmed with matching burgundy fringe.
The back rest side "struts" are reeded and the legs are very nicely turned. The feet have their original casters on brass fittings. The underside of the chair is covered in a plain calico.
This charming chair is in superb condition. It is small and low as was the style of this type of chair from the period. It measures 29 inches high to the top of the backrest, 14 inches high from the floor to the seat and 18 inches wide across the widest point.
